All I knew about bees (for way too long) was that they made honey (I like honey, so naturally I am a friend of the bees) and they pollinate - which is very important for the planet. This book taught me tons and was fun to read. Five stars - highly recommend.
-
I never paid much attention to the other types of bees until recently. Stumbled onto this book by accident in the UK. It really brought to light the importance of native bees in an entertaining way.

I’m overdue for a reread on this one. I can’t tell you much about it other than I distinctly remember enjoying reading it hahah.
-
Fantastic book to get you going if you have a bit of land and want to try your hand at farming. Inspirational what you can do with just a little land if you manage it properly.
-
If you are at all interested in mushrooms, you have to read this book. Mind blowing how intertwined Fungi is with our world.
-
Another amazing book on Fungi. Also a documentary with the same title that has incredible footage of the growth and behaviors Fungi exhibit.
-
Haven’t finished this one yet so I can’t speak for the entire book yet. So far it has helped break down the scientific reasons plants do things or look a certain way into understandable bits. Really enjoying this one.
-
Spotted these books on my visit to Kew Gardens (aka heaven). Amazing illustrations with some simple explanations and descriptions of interesting parts of the natural world.
history
-
Just one example of a book I am really enjoying and haven’t finished for a year or so. Doris Goodwin is fantastic at bringing some of history to life and has a few other books on my shelf.

Got one of these as a gift randomly and loved it. Shortly thereafter I got the whole series. Super fascinating and the detail Bill and his team go to is incredible. I’d recommend starting with Killing Patton.
fiction
-
Andy Weir makes some of my favorite bits of fiction. Books don’t often make me laugh out loud, but these both did. Yes its sci-fi, but not like Star Wars.
-
Grew up reading these with my parents. If you have never given these a shot I promise you, its worth it.
-
This is kinda cheating because its a series, but Sanderson is a master of his craft. I haven’t read many of his books, but I always like the ones I do.

Anything by Paul Humann and Ned Deloach involving fish is a masterwork. If you are at all curious about what you see under the sea…(cringe) get these.
-
Discovered the “Tropical and Marine Fishes” book on a vacation and got hooked. Now I have five of these and they have definitely helped me ID some stuff. Also random cool info in these.

Tim is a big inspiration of mine, if you haven’t heard of his podcast its worth a listen. Really like how this book lets you dip into the minds of some contemporary success stories.
